W00t - Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year

Associated Press reports the word: “W00t” has been chosen as Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year.  Did you know the origins of the term which signifies joy and excitement after winning has precedents on “Pretty Woman”, a 1990 film.  Julia Roberts screams loudly: “Woot, woot, woot” after winning a polo match, regardless of that being her first time playing the game. The internet started in 1991.

Seventeen years later, Starcraft, Diablo II, Warcraft III and World of Warcraft players still use “W00t” as a favorite choice of words to express joy, followed by the shouting: PWNED!
